The Médoc Marathon in Pauillac, Gironde.
Just 30 minutes from Les Peupliers*** campsite in Vendays-Montalivet, the Médoc Marathon has been run every year since 1985 on the second weekend of September, starting in Pauillac. Every year it has been increasingly successful, with 10,000 participants, making it one of the biggest marathons in France and the biggest in Gironde.
The Marathon du Médoc is a 42.195 km long foot race whose route follows the vineyards and roads of the Médoc, but also the parks of the magnificent châteaux.
Many participants come to the Médoc Marathon not for the performance but rather for the festive atmosphere. It is common to see runners dressed up in costumes and accessories, each one more improbable than the next.
However, whatever the objective, running a Marathon cannot be improvised and requires a minimum of physical and sporting preparation. The course, which crosses some fifty châteaux in the Médoc (west of the Gironde), some of them prestigious, is not easy and presents several uneven stretches that put the runners' legs to the test.
